I have a Kenmore Series 80 Dryer. It has stopped and won't come back on. My wife said that she smelt a slight burning smell, but has not remained. Checked breakers and plugs and all of that seems fine.
I can build a computer from scratch, but I am at a loss of where to begin with a dryer. Any ideas for starters, things to check?
This is our first dryer. Any suggestions on what 'not' when seeking out a repair person?
thanks,
mcb

Unplug the dryer from the wall and remove the small panel where the cord enters the back of the dryer. Check for damaged wires and let us know what you find.

We have the same problem with the same dryer. The dryer stopped and won't start. Last night I tried to fluff some clothes that I dried the night before and the dryer started only after I pushed the start button for about 5 seconds. Shortly after it stopped and wouldn't start again. I left it for the night and turned it on today. It started, but only after I pressed the start button for awhile. Then, it stopped again. I took the back panel off and the wires look fine. I am not very "appliance" savy so any suggestions would be great. I would like to handle this myself if possible.

My dryer did this a few years ago. I had just bought the house and the drayer would start with your finger on the button and then stop. It was the motor, it was in need of a new one.

That's what we were thinking. Same situation too- new house and it came with the washer and dryer. They are only 3-4 years old though. Doesn't that seem pretty quick for the motor to die?
