Hello Everyone:

 Hope someone can help me as I have never done this type of job before. The window in question is in the basement bedroom. A previous owner must have installed the window as it would not have been completed like this by a professional. Anyhow, the window sill is approx. 7.5 inches. From the inside, the window appears to be somewhat smaller than the original frame. It was installed and on each side of the window structure they have shoved a little insulation or poked in some putty to fill in the holes (not very nice looking). As winter is coming on sooner than I want it to, could someone tell me how this window should be finished properly inside so I don't have to keep the blinds closed over top of it.

Thanks. :)

It sounds like what you want is to install some trim that hides the gap between the window and the frame. If this is correct, you can go to any lumber yard and pick out some moulding (I tend to use parting bead, or something similar with one round edge, because I like the way it looks) that you can nail around the edge of the window. Just cut to length, mitre the corners if you want, and nail the moulding to the frame. When installed this will hide the gap between the frame and the window (as well as the putty/insulation stuffed into that gap). Just be sure to pick out stock that is thick enough to cover the gap. Good luck
