View Full Version : Pure Tech 2000/3000 vs Clack WS-1
I have been doing alot of research on the web and it looks like the Pure Tech models seem to be pretty good or at least advertised well. I am curious if anyone has any knowledge about these and how they rate to the Clack WS1?
Thanks!

What brand of control valve does it have? IMO the quality of the control valve is the most important part of a softener etc.. Tanks rarely and resin usually don't fail near as often as something in the control valve. I know of no control valve that can compete with the Clack WS-1 except for the one (probably) invented to compete with it, and that's the Fleck 7000. It does not require the normal FLeck special tools to reapir it and it has a feature the WS-1 doesn't; it's variable brining.

hello, hope you dont mind me jumping in here but if i may :D
surge are talking about the pure tech 3000 that was on ebay?
you can also find a link to it here in my thread.
http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=180431
if thats the same one you are talking about.... yes, i have info.
As you can see in my thread, our water was VERY bad and that product did make a major difference BUT there are still some unsolved issues as gary pointed out in my thread.
1)We still dont know whats in the softner (really in it... their site says purerez??)
and they will not tell me what the total make up really is (trade secrets).
2)we dont know if the system was properly sized for my application.
I spent the extra $$ and got the 3000 in the 13" at 64,000
as you see in there ad it has other "stuff" in the softer that conditions the water (plus takes up more room in the tank)
I am still having minior issues with my water but i will say that the company has responded to my requests and aside from not telling me whats in the softner, they have done everything i asked.
that included a second water test to see if there was tannins in the water.(there was) I thought the timer motor was bad so they sent out a new timing motor and also sent out 1.5cf of tannin resin. (at no extra charge) I dont know what kind of tannin resin they sent but it smells really bad
anyway, if that was the company you were talking about I hope this info helps and if it's not the same then sorry I rambled on so much.
****EDITED here to say:: I put the tannin resin in the softner today and to my suprise my 13" tank is only filled to a little better than half way with media so, there was plenty of room to put this resin in and alot left over making me think.....HHHHHHmmmmmmmmm.
so, with input from the pro's only take my info for what it's worth, 2cents*****
oh, and it has a fleck 2510 control valve.

All softeners, backwashed and regenerated filters have an 'empty' space above the media, it's called free board and is there so the media can be expanded upwrads during backwash. That enables cleaning the media of dirt. usually the free board is to allow 30% to 50% bed expansion; meaning 30-50% of the bed depth.
But having the room to add 1.5 cuft of resin in a piece of existing equipment... sounds like something that should have been in there isn't!

well, we live and learn :D
It's nice to have a board like this to see what the "REAL" deal is.

Yes, all of our equipment comes with a fleck control valve. Sorry, but even if the largest system was ordered you would not be able to add 1.5 cu ft of media to it. I did some research and the only amount of resin that is sent out like that is 20#. I know that may look like a cu ft of resin but it is not. If you have any questions on the equipment please vist the following:
