I have a gas Whirlpool dryer that starts turning the drum when the start switch is pressed but stops when the start switch is released. As long as the start switch is press the motor runs but does not heat but will not run on its owns. The same result occurs in timed drying and sensor drying. It doesnt sound like a switch failure since it does start running. Is it a control board?

Hello: kjurness. Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances topic.

More than likely, the control board is defective. It will need to be replaced. They are not a low cost item. Available through any local appliance parts store listed in the phone book.

Unplug the dryer, remove the circuit board and take it with you. Bring brand name, model and serail numbers also.
