I have a fairly new Caloric gas stove(about 5 years) which was given to me by a friend. When I installed it in my house and tried it out, I found that only one burner lit up.
When I turn the other three burners to Lite, the gas comes on but the igniter does not seem to work.
Does the igniter have another module that is within the stove or in the back of the stove, or is the only part to look at the actual igniter on the burner.
All of the igniters look OK to me, but I am not sure what to look for.
Thank you.

Hello Charles. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

If one ignitor works, than that means the sparking module also works. There is only module which operates all sparkers. We also know that there is electrical current to the appliance.

What we need to know is if the wires are all connected to the sparkers, to the top burner valves and the switches, on top of the burner valves. Some wires may not be connected to the sparkers or some switchs. Check and varify all wires are connected, first, before assuming there is a problem with any part(s).

Usually, if one spark works, all sparkers are getting current. Since turning on any single top burner knob activates all sparkers to fire. Which may indicate loose or non connected wires at the sparkers, etc. Also possible one single switch on one top burner knob is defective. Try the top burners and note if the sparkers all activate and work.

If the sparkers work and the burners do not light, cleaning the burners should solve the problem. Cleaning the ignition ports (holes on and up the side of the burner heads) will allow the gas to flow to the sparker(s).

Since you obtained this appliance from a person whom you know, ask them the history of the appliance and what the past problems where. Knowing how the appliance worked prior may help solve any of it's current problems.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be also. They will need the make, model an serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
