Can I paint a ceramic tile countertop? I bought a house and the tile color is horrible. For now, I would just like to paint it until I am able to replace it but if it will ruin it I would be better off with the horrible color.

You could try but it won't last. Even if you get the paint to adhere it will scratch up, and look terrible. What color is this tile? Care to try your hand at retiling it??? I would.

yes you can paint tile, but you will have to be careful around it. they make paint specifically for tile - check your hardware store. as long as you hate what's there now, and you'll be changing it out later, might as well give her a go!
tip: if you paint with a dark color, the grout lines will look wierd. go for a light color, like white or pale yellow or something. might even want to paint white first, then do a light sponge paint job over top of it with another light color. it'll look like real mottled tile.
what color is it now???

The tile in the house now is a real dingy blue, not a pretty blue at all. I do plan on replacing it eventually but in the mean time I would like to paint it if I can. Thanks for the advice.

It can be painted. It WILL look cheezy. It will not last as a usable countertop. It will scratch flake and peel. If it is a food prep area do not do it. Ceramic tile has a glazed finish that is fired on in a kiln. It can't be successfully sanded to give any new topcoating something to bite into. Re-tiling a countertop is a very beginner- friendly project. We will be happy to walk you through it.

Countertop refinishing is used everyday in the harshest invironments. Apartment complexes refinish countertops on a regular basis versus replacement. Warranties by refinishing companies can be 1 year or more. Tile, laminate, fiberglass, cultured marble are just some of the surfaced refinishing is performed on. Do-it-yourself products are also available, regular paint will not work!. Try the xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or xxxxxxxxxxx on the internet for more information.
