We have a brick chimney with 'Majestic' fireplace .

After a major rains our chimney is leaking :

1. I can hear water dripping behind the fireplace walls.
2. In our basement, the wall under the fireplace is wet.
3. There is a puddle of water on the basement floor about 3 feet away from the wall - when I looked up, the water was dripping from the place where two pieces of the living room sub floor meet. It looks like the water is running down the chimney and then partially down the basement wall and partially into the living room (with the newly installed hardwood floors!).

Does anyone have any ideas, what could be done to fix this problem?

Besides my worries about the hardwood on the first floor - we are in the process of finishing our basement - and it really doesn't look like we should be doing it until the leak is fixed.

To make it more clear - when we moved into the house 5 years ago (new construction), we had a hurricane Floyd - and a lot of water in the same spot with the same scenario: basement wall an living room floor. Called the builder. The guy who built the chimney came and did something - and everything was fine until yesterday when we had the remnants of the last hurricane again.

So we have this problem only during major rains ( once every 5 years so far)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
