Not likely anything wrong with the dryer. More like the use of a petro or oil based product used and the fumes of such are burning. A common situation when any type of oil based product (stains, adhesives, polishes, oil based paints, etc) is used.
Airing out the house helps to cure or dry the product used. Once the product dries or cures, the smell will be gone.
