I guess my problem is not the DVD player itself but the screen that my kids watch movies on. When I first got my Expedition occasionally the screen would black out during a movie. The sound was still there. Of course the dealership kept it for a month and didn't do anything but said the repared it. Anyway, my husband replaced the vcr palyer with a DVD player and worked on the screen some. It helped for a little while. But now the screen is ALWAYS black and my husband is too busy to look at it again. Can someone tell me what to look for. I want to try to fix it and I'm not taking it back to Ford. They apparently know less than I do about it.

Sounds like it's just a bad connection somewhere (the video connector, specifically.) If the disc/movie is still playing and you can hear it, then the S-Vid or RCA plug for the player is probably loose (usually the Yellow connector - or, if it's S-Vid, it's a bigger, round black plug.)
Check those connectors out, if that doesn't help, then it could be the screen itself.
You could also have a professional check it out (NOT the big yellow tag store - a REAL professional), they would probably do so for little to nothing.
Good luck!
