i have just moved into a 600 sq ft efficiency apartment and i have the ok to paint from my landlord. my trouble now is that i am scared to do it because it might look bad!

i bought a large accent rug that is choclate brown and sea blue. i would like to paint the walls in living area colors that match these, maybe the blue for two opposing side walls and the brown for the pillars and trim (both about a foot and a half wide). the ceiling and other two walls would stay white. are these colors going to be too dark for the apartment, and are they a good idea to combine in such a linear, almost boxy way?

i was also hoping to paint the bedroom in a light green color, but as there is no door (only a wall) seperating the spaces i am wondering if this is going to be too much color.

any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

to maximize the space visually, paint all walls the same color, and all the trim/woodwork the same color.

i don't see how the green will go with the blue & brown, so if you must, you might want to just paint an accent wall in the bedroom the green color, but pick a wall that you can't see from the other space! or add some green accents into the living space, so it will make sense.

you've answered your own question since you're already afraid that it will be "linear" and "almost boxy". go for "flow" and you'll be happier with the results, especially in such a small space.
