If the painting contractor removes all the cabinet and door hinge hardware, as well as the window lock hardware, in order to paint or stain the cabinets, doors and windows, should he also reinstall all of the hardware and rehang the doors after he is finished?

Yes, the painter should do that.
Do you have a general contractor or acting as your own general contractor?

Whatever the painter removes, he should replace.

Thanks for the info. The painter has not said he wouldn't reinstall the hardware, but I just wanted to make sure that it is his responsiblility if I have to get vocal about it.

Whatever he removes, he is responsible to PUT IT BACK!!!
He costed it in his time for the job and reinstalling is also part of the same cost!
