I am looking into replacing a 1984 classic 4 seer to a 2004-(show me some savings) 12,13, or 14 seer unit. i am looking for a 4 ton that has had a great track record and in the 4500-6000 price range. i am currently looking at the trane xr12, goodman cplt, reem rpmc036, rudd, and bryant 650anx. i have heard that rudd/goodman uses copeland parts which are supposed to be 1 of the best? i am looking into a viarable speed handler. i need some input on if i am going in the right direction or are there models/manufact i should look at.
thanks

i'm not an ac expert by any means so i will try and answer your questions. the fuel i'm looking at is puron, power is no problem, 4 ton heat pump. problem with the cadillac models ie...trane 16i is $$$$. my budget is 4500-6000 installed. those high end units are mucho dinero and the return on my money is well over 10 years vs savings on my electric bill.
thanks for your thoughts

The SEER you should get depends on your geographical location. What is the summer climate and how long is it?

i like the amana rha unit. 14 seer, r22, very quiet, outstanding warranty
coupled with a VS blower and TXV metering device should do the job quite well and should fit into your budget, if prices are close to those in atlanta
