I'm upgrading my whole kitchen. I've taken out all the old cabinets and I'm currently rewiring the entire kitchen and getting it upto code. The old kitchen didn't have a dishwasher or a disposal.

So my question is regarding hardwiring a dishwasher and disposal (seperate circuits).
How do I do it ? Do I leave out wire from a junction box and get it connected directly to the dishwasher. Do I need to encase it in conduit (I'm using Romex) ? I'm hoping the dishwasher comes with it's own little junction box that I connect the wires to. I haven't purchased the dishwasher yet. Waiting for the new cabinets to come in.

ditto for the disposal.. though I will have a switch for that over the counter.

Thanks.

The dishwasher will probably come with a standard cord and NEMA 5-15 plug. Hardwiring it might make it difficult to get the unit in and out. Why not just install a receptical. Around here, disposals are also installed using receptical and an appliance cord that can be purchased at most home improvement stores. You might check local code to see if that's allowed. Sure makes things simple. Also provides a handy switched plug for the wet vac. when the drain backs up.

I agree... I'm trying to contact the local code office to see if I can just install an outlet there.. it would be the easiest thing for me to do...

I just didn't know what other people did.. or what was the general rule about these things are..

Thanks
