My bathroom downstairs is very small. Went it was built 30 years ago they must have laid tiny ceramic tiles into concrete. Now they look very old and the concrete shows between the tiles. I want to replace the old, small tile with large linoleum tile, but am wondering if I can just put the linoleum over the old tiles using some sort of adhesive. Or if I should try to take up the old and put plywood down and the linoleum over the plywood? It is going to be difficult to take up the ceramic tile because it is cemented into the ground. Please help!

Its a bit messy, but, using a power disk sander, sand off the glaze and float with a good floor filler such as ARDEX, lightly polishing with your trowel and install your flooring material.

Leveling compound is a must. Tile will have to be extemley clean and scarified. Follow manufacturer's instructions re: subfloor prep, acclimation, instruction, maintenance and care to maintain warranties. If surface beneath new floor covering installation does not present a flat surface, then plywood for vinyl underlayment needs to be installed.
