This is probably the most basic of plumbing questions: I've got a leaky Kohler tub faucet (just the bath-spout is leaking)...it began about a week ago as just an intermittant dripping, but now it has become pretty much a constant drip.

I've searched around these forums and online, and it seems as though a ring or seal has degraded...I found, on Kohler's web site, the parts list (PDF format) (http://www.serviceparts.kohler.com/Pdfs/087517_8.pdf) for what I believe is the model of my shower-set (the "Coralais" line)...I don't know the exact model because I bought the house and the documentation was not provided.

My question is: is this a simple process of going to Home Depot (or wherever) with the parts diagram and describing the problem, buying the part, and fixing it myself? The caveat: I know next to nothing about plumbing, and this will be my first foray into fixing anything like this. Is it worth it, or is this a job for a plumber (which would be more costly, I would imagine).

Thanks for any help!

You'll have to shut off the water supply and the disassemble the handle for whichever water supply is leaking ( hot or cold) or if it is a single handle do that one. There is probably a cover over the screw but it just pops in so remove it with the edge of a screwdriver. Then remove the screw holding the handle on and remove handle. You should see a cartridge if it is single handle or the stem assembly if it is single handle. Remove cartridge/stem and take it with you to wherever you are going to get parts.Should be a simple operation. Good luck and post back.
