I want to build a riverstone fireplace. I have poured a concrete pad under the basement floor when we built but I installed a chase for a wood burning fireplace and never completed the project. Now I want to buy a gas fireplace and place river rock and a cedar mantle in place. Do I need to put a smaller chase inside the existing? Any special clues for starting this project? It will be flush against the drywall on an interior wall, do I need to have a special wall liner before I start? Our house is 11 years old.
