I'm drywalling the ceiling in my basement. Using screws with 4X8 ft 1/2 inch drywall how many screws should be in each sheet?

8"oc. in the field 1 ea. joist ea. side at the edges and 9ea. each sheet at the end joints.

Most code calls for one screw every 12 inches in the field and 8 inches on the butt joint. And of course around the perimiter. Thats 5 screws per joist. So depending on how your sheet hits the joists, between 30 to 40 screws.

IRC 2003 says 1 screw every 12" where the joists are 16" or 24" on center where no adhesive is used...and 1 screw every 16" where adhesive is used...

So between 28 and 35 screws per board depending on adhesive.

Check your local code.
