Hello Folks. My 10 hp Tecumseh on my 5 kw Coleman generator runs while backfiring continually. Any ideas? Made it through Hurricane Frances with minimal damage, but may have to face Huricane Jeanne now down here in FL.
I hope you can help with the backfire. Thanks a million. bryum

Depending on the type of back fire you're talking about. If it's just popping a bit through the exhaust while it's running, it could be a simple carb adjustment. If it's more serious then give us more details so we can take it further.

I agree...the backfiring is probably due to a lean fuel ratio due to a partially clogged carburetor. Cleaning it out should fix it. This is common on generators especially because they don't get used much and residual fuel in the carburetor gums up.
