I just installed a laminate floor in my bathroom that has raised the heigth of the floor by 3/8 of an inch.

I visited the local hardware store and they told me a standard wax ring will work, but when I re-installed the toilet I don't believe the wax compressed enought for a tight seal and the neck of the wax ring amy not be long enough to reach the floor flange.

Should I use an extension wax ring as well?

Looks like you need 2 wax rings to make a complete seal. 3/8ths isn't really much of a rise but water will find anything that is not sealed. Good luck.

Hi grege,

I laid laminate hardwood flooring in my basement bathroom and had a similar problem with the flange being too low. But I bought a flange extension kit from Homedepot and raised the flange a 1/4". They screw in really easy and the kit I bought had built in seals so installation was a snap.

Just an alternative to the double wax ring.

Livens idea is probably the best as 2 wax seals leaves a margin of error you really don't want. Your choice. I've seen it done both ways. Good luck.

Home depot also sells a wax ring extender kit, which is just an extra thick wax ring. For some reason my local HD didnt sell the flange extender, which I would have prefered. Also, dont make the same mistake I did, make sure your toilet will be level (shim if needed) before compressing the wax ring.
