I'm a novice, but willing to try. I attempted to have some furniture delivered today, and the dressers would not go up the stairs because of an angled celing at a turn on the second step of my staircase. It appears if I would cut into the lower level ceiling at the entrance to the staircase, extend that angled opening one foot into the lower hall, then box it in, I can get furniture up and down with ease. To me, it seems fairly straightforward.

Is this something that can be attempted by a homeowner? Or would I be better off to call a contractor. I don't think I would be affecting the structural integrity of the wall, merely appearance. How do I know what is behind there (i.e. wiring, etc.)?

I'm ready to get the saw out and start cutting, but don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

I'm stumped. How big is your dresser? Where are these steps? I'm confused about your problem. Sorry.

I'm removing a step instead. Much easier. (Those dressers will never leave this house though!)
