I have a garage with (painted drywall) walls that come down to the floor, sometimes with a small gap. There is nothing that finishes the wall at the bottom, so it is susceptible to water getting into the wall. (There actually is one spot where this happened already, and some black mold is starting to appear.

I would like to finish the bottom of the wall so that it is protected from any spills or other water that may end up on the floor. I was thinking of caulking around the base with a waterproof caulk and then attaching a self-adhesive vinyl trim around the base of the wall.

Will this work? Or should I be doing something else?

Thanks for your help!!

Why is the wall getting wet? A little spill isn't going to do much damage.
