Hello cabbageleaf!
Run the engine at lowest speed and adjust the low speed mixture screw first. This is the brass screw on top of the carb. It should run smoothest at somewhere around 1 1/2 to 2 full turns out from lightly seated. Then, rev up the throttle to full speed. Unscrew the high speed mixture screw (the one under the carb) until the engine stumbles and sputters. Then tighten the screw, counting the # of turns until the engine runs good, then begins to spit and surge. Then divide that # in half, and tighten it that many turns. Fine tuning can be done from there if needed.
