Sometime in the next year or two I intend to replace all the windows in my house with Pella doublehungs. Does anyone have a link for the proper procedure to stain and varnish the interior of them and still have the windows operate when I'm done?
I am trying to get a feel for the procedure and the time involved. I really don't like painting and if it sounds too much like work, I may hire it done. Any and all help greatly appreciated.

I don't understand why they wouldn't operate. Both stain and varnish have a very miniscule DFT rating. The dried film thickness of most oil or acrylic clear coats are only 1.1 mils thick. The windows shouldn't gum up, or be hindered in performance at all.

I've specified painting systems for dozens of buildings over the years, but I've never seen the whole painting process actually done for windows. I guess I don't know how I keep varnish from getting between the sash and the jamb track and drying, thus "glueing" the sash to the track. I believe Pella has the tilting sash for cleaning; do I just tilt the sash out to stain & varnish?
I should know this, but 99.5% of my work is on the commercial side using anodized aluminum windows. Please bear with me.
