After taking a shower, turning the water off, there is still the sound coming from the pipes around the shower. I think it sounds like air being sucked in slowly, someone else thinks it sounds like slowly running water. The sound seems to be eminating from the upper shower head pipe itself, and not from any of the handles. I looked up from the basement around the pipes and everything seemed dry and dusty, so I don't think it's leaking back there. Any idea what this could be?
Thanks.

You didn't say if this is a shower or tub and shower combo. If it is a combo and you do not open the diverter to drain from the spout, it is probably slowly bleeding down and that is the "sucking air" sound you hear. Hope this helps you.

It's a combo, but the diverter falls down by itself. I should add that it's old, and needs to be replaced, but the problem with it is that it doesn't fully cut off the water to the spout when using the shower (not the other way around). It doesn't come out of the shower when filling the tub, but could it be enough calcium built up around the diverter mechanism stopping (or slowing) the water from coming down the shower pipe?

When you use the shower you are filling about 4 feet of pipe with water. When you finish there is water in the pipe and it most likely is slowly draining down producing the sound you hear. Try blocking off the shower head when you are done ( with your hand) and see if you hear the sound. Then remove your hand and see if it starts.
