Hi, living in Orlando, where a brand new attraction is a bi-weekly hurricanes, I want to reinforce the garage door, by installing more of the horizontal large U shape metal bars in middle of the door. The regular door (not reinforced) has only one of those bars on the top and another at the bottom of the door. My neighbor's house reinforced garage door has 3 or 4 more of those bars as vertebraes. My door has the necessary holes in the vertical columns, already prepared to install more bars. I tried to purchase them at the local garage door companies in Orlando, but the only thing I heard is that those bars are not sold separately....

Any help?

Thank you.

The piece your looking for is called a "hat section" and while yours may be in a "V" shape, it also comes as a "U". The first link shows it as a "U", and the second link is a series of Florida metal fabricators who may or may not sell retail, but will probably direct you to a retailer or wholesaler.

I recently purchased a garage door and was impressed to find a sheet of paper that said "If anything is missing, please call this number and we will solve the problem in one phone call..." or something like that.. :)

You would be best served by contacting the manufacturer directly; have a list of what you want. You will either pay for it, or get it gratis.

Of course, I can't guarantee all garage door makers are that friendly to D.I.Yers, but it's a safe bet.
