Marine: Boating, Sailing, PWC, GPS and Navigation - wave runner electrical problem

We have a 1988 wave runner and accidentally crossed battery polarity when jump starting. Now its dead. Any idea which electrical components need replacing or how to test them?

Unfortunately, reversing polarity can burn up more than one electrical componet or electrical part. Testing, finding and dretermining which (part(s) usually takes professional diagnostics equipment and an electrical professional.

Best bet would be to have the wave runner tested at a local dealers or repair shop that repairs this type of water vehicle. You could spend more money and lots of time and not resolve the problem. Many have been there and done that without much success.

most skis have a fuse protecting the eletrical system,usually its near the electrical box.

Merc is correct. The fuse should be in the black electrical box. There is a thread-on cap that you'll need to remove, and inside is a black fuse holder in-line on a red wire - you'll need to pull that out. Yamaha often includes a spare fuse attached to the wire.
