Being a novice to the art of fitting laminate flooring based on the advice of a salesperson at the local DIY store i installed my laminate flooring over the existing carpet underlay. My problem is that the laminate floor is very creaky :( , is there anyway I can fix this with minimum hassle i.e not having to refit the whole floor?

if you installed laminate on top of carpet padding, creaking is the least of your worries.

Nope. Sorry, but next time read the instructions first.

Care to elaborate!? What further problems do I have to look forward to?

carpet padding is way too resilient to be used under a floating floor. The tounges will break and gaps will form and your floor will start to fall apart.
If your floor can be taken up and put back down, I would recommend you do it right away before you have to buy all new flooring.

NEVER follow or even ask for advise at the DIY stores!!!!
They have no clue, what so ever!!!!!
Inside the cartons of flooring, there should have been installation requirements and instructions. In those instructions, it would have told you what the approved substrates are to install over. I have seen in one manufacturers specs, that tight commercial level loop, glued down to the substrate is approved, but only one.
If you went over carpet with a lot of cushion in the face, not to mention carpet over a cushioned padding, the sound you are hearing is the T&G cracking, and destroying itself, because of flex.
When you take the floor back apart inspect all the T&G for damage and replace those that need it. Mainly in the traffic areas.
