I'm trying to figure out how to hook up a DVI cable or RCA component cable from my receiver to my HDTV. I'm currently not getting great HDTV quality because I only have an S-cable running from the receiver to the TV. I've been told that I need either a DVI or an RCA component cable to get HDTV quality images. and the cable needs to be about 30 ft. long because I have my DVD player, HDTV cable box, and receiver in the closet. And I've been told that the DVI or RCA component cables of that length run about $400.
any tips on how I should go about this?

In order for the DVI to work, the DVI "out" and "in" have to be hooked up direct. The normal hook up between the DVD and TV convert the signal from digital to analog and back whereas the DVI connectors go straight digital with no conversion and therefore provide a better image. It sounds like you need to move your DVD closer to the TV and cut out those lengthy cables.

I agree, move the HD cable or sat receiver closer to the tv for DVI.
Component cables can be run to 30 or 40 feet, but dvi is probably the way to go.
My Dishnet HD receiver uses DVI(8') to my Sony Wega. The receiver also outputs component and I may buy a small lcd screen for the eating area and run the component about 28 ft.

I've read your post a few times and not sure what you asking.
1. Are you asking how to do this cheaply? Then yes, move everything closer together.
2. Are you looking for alternatives to DVI or component cables?
3. Are you asking how to run the cables thru the wall?
The only inexpensive option is to move everything closer. Otherwise - buy the long cables.
