What is your opinion on which source of heat for a small heating stove is most environmentally responsible? Wood is renewable (barely, it seems) but gas is cleaner burning. Pellets make use of waste wood (I presume?) but there is a cost in processing and shipping and don't they require electricity to feed the pellets?

And an unrelated question, is it possible to get non-fake wood inserts in gas stoves? It is not a wood stove; I don't want to pretend that it is.
