Got wacked by a flood a few weeks ago. Finished basement got about 8 inches of water. I got the carpet out. Everyone is telling me i need to replace the bottom 2 or 4 feet of the drywall to make sure the mold stops. I got some estimates which are out-of-this world. Insurance wont cover it. I did get FEMA and am in process of geting a small business admin loan.
I am thinking of doing it myself.
I cut some 1x1 blocks out of the drywall yesterday at about the 1 foot line above the floor, drywall is damp on backside, but found no mold. Has a plastic lining behind drywall and some type of foam insulation.
If i do it myself, should i get rid of the bottom 2 feet or go to 4 foot level??
What about the plastic, should i pull it up to allow it to dry if water did get behind it??
Should i attemp this or just get someone to do it??
I have done minor drywall repair in the past , but thats about it.
Thanks

I would cut it out to 4'. Let it dry completely. Then see if there are any mold issues or further wall damage.
