Cedar Shake siding has been painted numerous times (always primed with an oil-based primer before painting, typically with Sherwin Williams flat latex) but the siding will not hold paint much longer than three to four years. Only alternative is to scrape all the old paint off of the affected shakes and re-prime, then re-paint.

I'm told a power wash would be too strong for the siding so I typically scrape the paint off by hand.

Question is, is there a way to get paint to bond better to cedar shake siding?

Thx...
