i have a 14x14 deck that also doubles as a carport. im aware that tongue and groove warps if uncovered but is there another way or type of decking i can use so the car isnt getting wet and the deck is not subject to water damage?

Water will seep through a T & G joint as well. Unless you seal it up real good.

The only way I can think of to totally rid the seepage issue is to concrete the entire surface. And have it sloped to the front so that when water does get on it, it will run away from the structure.

Let me see if I get this right your carport has a deck above the carport??

What your trying to do is keep the car dry?

Ok if this is the case. This is provideing your deck that you have now has some pitch 1" to 1 1/2" per 10' will work it also needs to be sturdy built. You can sleeper the deck with 1"X4" or 2"X4" flat then use a membrane. In other words seal it with something like sheet roofing rubber and sealant. We do this on second story decks alot. Get the Idea? Make sure the sleepers either run with the pitch or you can make 3/4" drain channels to let the water out. Now on top of your sealed old floor. Deck it over useing the sleepers as your new joist allow the deck to run wild over the ends and sides 1 1/2".

Now trim all round the edge with 1"X4" to cover the side of sleepered deck.

With a 3/4"X3/4"X3" block behind the trim vertical every 8" to 16" to hold the trim out to allow the water to drain out the pitched end and air all the way round to get in and dry it out after a rain.

This should work and keep the car dry provided your deck can handle a facelift like this.

If your above on the deck in the rain sorry :( get an umbrella LOL

Hope this helps.

Yes you do want to run the sleepers right over the old joist place them on top the old deck make sure you waterproof after you install the sleepers not before. now you have a high spot in the deck to screw into. Not at water flow level. Make sure water wont pool on you under the new deck. Use a garden hose to check it.

Good luck!

Glad I could help
