I have a Tappan Millennia gas range (model TF336BHWE). The oven burner will not ignite. The "ignitor comes on" but it gas does not seem to come out. I can place a lit fireplace match right up against the oven burner, with the thermostat turned all the way on and it will not light! It will eventually light after many, many attempts.

Do I have a problem with the safety valve, pressure regulator or thermostat?

Hello David and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances topic.

Even if the ignitor is glowing, most likely it is not hot enough to allow the gas valve to open. Replace it and oven should work well after that. read a few of the existing posts having oven ignitor problems. They contain all the info needed on how to remove and replace the ignitor.

Best first attempt to fix the problem is to replace that ignitor. Unplug the appliance and remove the existing ignitor. Replace it with exact OEM ignitor.

A hot glowing surface ignitor, working correctly, will glow an intense bright yellow orange in color. Any reddish color or a dull orange color indicates the glow coil is weak.

Glowing hot surface ignitors are fragile & break easily. Handle and install the new ignitor carefully. Glowing hot surface ignitors are a non returnable and non refundable electric componet. Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs.

Retail parts dealers and appliances parts stores can also help determine what the possible problem may be based upon that specific brand and model. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers and appliances parts stores are listed in the phone book.
