hello,

back in may i started a veggie garden from seed, the garden mostly consists of tomatoes, - Beef master, Roma, Cherries, and super sweet were the ones i planted. all the plants took off, and are still producing boat-loads of fruit even to this day,. the problem though is i would like harvest 1-2 tomatoes of all the varieties and use them to seed next yr's garden. does anyone have any info on the proper procedures for doing this? such as drying, storing, 'reviving', ect ?

thanks in advance.

Bryan

Hi Bryan

First let me start by saying that we have some very good links in the Helpful Garden Links Sticky.

We own the Lucky Horseshoe Farm & grow all Open pollenated or Heirloom vegatables & Fruits. We grow Tomatos for seed and sales. The seed is from a Tomato plant or plants at least 100 yards from any other Tomato plant.

There is fermenting the seeds in juice & getting the ones that sink then wash the good ones & dry them vaccum pack sometimes freeze.

Read the links and we will talk futher.

We have been growing & saving seeds since 1972. Love to share the small often overlooked tricks I gained from the Farmers of old I have met in my life.

The Garden Forum had or tried to have a seed swapping sticky, but it never took off. If any are intrested I will open an unlocked sticky where you can list your seeds for trade.

For anyone wanting to save their non hybrid seeds. I am always open for a question. We my Wife & Partner of 32 years have grown from NY State to South Fla & also love to grow wild plants from seeds also. Just knowing that we can grow our own food without paying someone for seeds that can abort it's own seed is a good feeling. For the Milions of others who depend on Monsanto & the USDA to feed them must feel helpless in many ways.

We sometimes feel like the keeper of the seeds for our Childrens, Children. To lose the right to own our own food will cause others to hold our freedoms hostage to, Hybrids & GMOs someday.

I'll take my soap box down now, & get back to canning Raspberry juice :)
