Hey folks,

I have a cathedral ceiling in my living room. At the top is a support beam. The previous owners painted it white, but I was thinking that I could remove the paint, sand it, and then finish it with some stain and polyeurthane finish to give the room a better look. Has anyone ever done this or have any advice on this?

Thanks!

If it was originally stained or painted and because of the the penetrating properties of both, there will be areas where it will not be totally removable and will a consideration in future choices.

The paint can probably be sanded off, but you may have alot of sanding to do to get it back to the natural wood grain you're looking for. I'd give it a try in a small area, if it proves to difficult you can always reprime & paint it white again. Just my $.02 there. Good luck. :)
