Hi,
We have a 2-yr-old acrylic tub enclosure which is working out great for us: easy to clean, looks good, etc. The problem is that we live in a humid climate and tend to accumulate mildew on the caulking. I replaced the caulk in June with supposedly mildew resistant silicone caulking. Nevertheless, our strain of mildew has walked all over the caulking.
I do not want to use bleach on it, because I'm concerned that the bleach will oxidize the surface. We've already had one previous repair because we accidently used a non-acrylic-friendly cleaner on the tub.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Jeff Cagle

Mildew grows in a favorable environment of moisture and a soiled surface. Clean the affected area more frequently to prevent the mildew or wipe it to remove any accumulated moisture. There are many commercial cleaners for acrylic tubs. I use Spic n Span to clean my acrylic of soap scum and any stray mildew.
Hope this helps.

Between the first post and this one, I went to clean the tub. We use 409, for what it's worth. The mildew refuses to come off, even when I scrub with a toothbrush. Is it possible that it got *under* the caulk? Does silicone caulk adhere properly to acrylic?
Thanks,
