Are there any reliable products available to repair small chips in the porcelain glaze of a sink, or can it be done by professionals? The chips are through the glaze and show signs of rust. Thanks for your advice. Don N.

One way.
Small chips or scratches can be sealed with bright white Appliance Touch-Up liquid (made to repair chips in enamel appliances). Can be found at hardware and appliance stores.
Sand off the rust, clean and dry (hairdryer) the chip spots.
Brush on the touch-up liquid with the cap brush (like nail polish) that comes with it. Smooth up the edges with a Q-tip dipped in acetone (nail polish remover). Let dry overnight. It drys hard as a rock, and shrinks a bit. If the chip is "deep" it may take more than one application.
Good Luck!
Mike

I've also found that if you apply the touch-up and 'build it up' a bit, once it dries you can sand down with some VERY VERY fine automotive finish sandpaper (sold at Pep Boys, etc). Wet sand until it's all nice & smooth.

You will never be able to tell there was ever a chip there.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding the use of appliance touch-up enamel. I have previously tried it after trying to clean out the ould rust with navel jelly, but the rust eventually returns. I'll try sanding and see if the results are any better.
