We are in the process of replacing most of our carpeting with laminate flooring. As we started our third project we ran into a glitch.

The stairway trim at the top of the stairs is not at an even height. Most of the trim will allow the flooring to slide under it. But in some very noticeable places the trim and newell posts connect with the subfloor. How do we lay the laminate and trim it out in these areas?

Is it wise to undercut a newell post?

As with all fixed objects and doorjambs, undercutting so the laminate slides under it, is the proper way to finish it off.
