i have a quick question. I need to know what kind of paint to use to make a poster look like a real painting when i go over it with a few brush strokes. so, it will be some kind of clear glossy paint, but the one i bought didn't leave the "ripples" that a real painting would.
any suggestions?

i'd go to a place that sells artist's oil paints & supplies. i think maybe there's a clear gesso (pronounced "jesso") medium that would work. but they'll be able to tell you for sure. maybe even that decoupage stuff would work, but it might level itself out smooth, which you don't want. same problem with polyurethane, i would imagine.

sorry i don't know for sure! but the art supply store will......

If you go to an Art Supply store, look for Matte Medium. In the old days, I remember there were only two matte mediums to be available - Matte and Gloss. Now matte medium is available in a wide variety of mixtures. My preference is for the Golden brand. I've never, ever had a bad experience with their product. I don't work for them -- just a loyaly user. Once I used their acrylics, I became a huge fan. Their product may seem pricey; however, in most cases it is highly condensed. It pays to read the directions. Matte Medium will provide more consistency to the brush stroke than Gesso. I think Gesso is much more fragile than Matte Medium. The sealing process is more one step with Matte Medium as well. Both products can be tinted and extended when used.

Golden provides to the consumer a wider selection of mixed media product (in my opinion) than most companies. If you decide to use them, I hope you have the same success as I have these past few years.

Good luck!
