Hello. The lever that diverts water from the tub spout to the shower head is froze up and the tub is dripping. I have replaced the tub spout but this did not help. Apparently the lever that handles hot and cold is what controls the water going towards the tub spout. How do I make the tub spout have water come out? How do I make it so both the shower head and the tub spout do not drip out water when not in use? Please be detailed and give me step by step directions so I can fix this correctly. Thank you for your help.

Can't give specific directions if you don't give a brand name and model of the faucet.
Pictures would help.

Unfortunately, I don't know the name or manufacturer because it isn't on the unit (where the hot and cold is) and the shower head and tub spout have been replaced before we moved here. So I don't know about the names of the unit. One lever shifts for both hot and cold.

You're going to have to turn off the water, and remove the lever and diverter (cartridge?) that is frozen in order to repair them from the tub/shower side.
If you don't know the brand name and type of faucet, we can't help you, but maybe someone who can see it can identify and help you find the right part(s) for it.
You may have to just call a plumber who can determine what you're dealing with and repair it for you.
Good luck!

We got a wire hanger, stuck it up the pipe where the tub spout was and found a piece of a sock or cloth stuck in there. It had been like this for two years (since we bought the place) and we have never used the bath part only shower. So problem solved. Horray!
