Is there anyway to check a solid state ignition coil...perhaps wth an ohmeter? Aren't there only two wires coming out of the coil...one hot wire and one kill wire? Is there a web site where one can get detailed information (schematics) on these coils?

You can check resistance from the high tension lead to ground on the stack. I think most should show between 2k to 8k ohms. Also if it is installed disconnect the kill wire and check for spark at the high tension lead. If all other components are good and installed correctly and you have no spark with the kill wire unhooked, then the coil is bad.

Most don't even have a hot wire, just a kill wire. As Azis said, if you unplug the kill wire and still have no spark, then the coil is bad, unless it uses an igniter like some kawasakis and foreign engines do.
