The tapered bolt that goes through the rear hub keeps breaking or shearing. I have replaced it with Snapper's 5/16-24X1 5/8" (part 1-1035) two times. I now am using a bolt and nut that also breaks. There is a problem that is causing this and I can't figure it out. The mower is a SR1433 and is in the 3rd season.

Sounds like you need to replace the hub itself. I think you'll find it is loose fitting and the hole for the tapered bolt is slotted.
