I have a kenmore 70 series gas dryer that will not heat but will run otherwise.
Needless to say, my wife is not happy!!!!
I have checked the lint trap and the exhast vent which seem to be clean. I took the back off the dryer and checked a fuse that was close to the vent. It was fine. I have checked other wires and cannot see any obvious signs of burning etc. There are also no indications that there was a problem with the gas.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thank you,
TC

Hello TC. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
First basic step is to be sure all the selection controls are set correctly. Than note if the hot surface glow ignitor is glowing. If not, it's burned out and in need of replacement.
Open the burner access door and then turn the dryer on. Watch inside the burner compartment for the glow ignitor to light up and glow.
If all the controls are set correctly on the front control panel and the dryer is running but the glow ignitor fails to glow, you located the defective part. The glow ignitor will need to be replaced.
To remove the ignitor, turn off the gas first. Unplug the dryer from the electrical wall plug. Then remove the entire gas valve as an assembly. The nut on the gas valve to remove it from the gas supply pipe turns counterclock wise.

There will be small sheet metal screws used to secure the plate to which the burner assembly parts are attached to. The plate holds the entire assembly and is attached to the bottom of the dryers cabinet.
Next, remove the glow ignitor from the burner assembly. Take the entire assembled part to the local appliance retail parts store for a replacement coil.
Glow ignitors are fragile & they break easily. Handle and install the new ignitor carefully. Glow ignitors are a non returnable and non refundable electric componet.
Appliance parts dealers test and carry replacement parts for all appliances. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Check the recent posting on dryer topics. Several have replies with additional information on glow ignitor removal and replacement.
