I have DSL in my house. Found a jack in a room with dial tone, but no DSL... Turns out the dial tone is for a second number that's never been disconnected!

So... If I disconnect it at the main panel, and punch it down on my main number, will it automatically pick up the DSL signal?

I can't imagine why it wouldn't, but...

If it is punched down in parallel with the DSL line, it should. One point of consideration is how much your system may be built in a daisy-chain. This tends to degrade the signal from point to point. Star is a better technique for wiring to enable more equal signals.

First of all DSL is provided to the line it was installed on. That being said you can NOT exspect to fine it on another line installed within your home, unless you had DSL install on it too. If you have DSL service you MUST have filters at all jacks using the DSL line that have analog phones plugged into them.
