This old house is about 100 years old, seriously. The ceilings of course are plaster. I have read many posts referring to sheetrocking, but I can't imagine how back breaking that must be. I suppose there MUST be a machine I could rent to get the sheetrock up there, but I haven't looked into that yet. And I know there is a drop ceiling I can put up. I presume that is not all that difficult. Are there any other choices? (other than tiles of course) :)

Yes there is a dry wall machine that one man can work and put and hold the drywall up there at the ceiling while you screw it in. There are all kinds of things or tiles that can go into a drop ceiling. you can put the lights above then or like in the ceiling there. look around at home depot and Lowes .

You can re drywall or repair what you have. I would not put a drop ceiling in a hundred year old house. I think you may need some professional help in this situation.

I thank both Ed and Coops for the answers. I've been directed by some local folks to do the sheetrock, but in plaster, that just scares me that it won't be the safest thing.

Coops, if you're ever in Springfield I'd welcome your professional opinion!!! :)
