My husband and I just purchased home w/gas fireplace. Love the fireplace, hate the surround and hearth, which are emerald green stone slab (faux marble). Not planning on staying in house more than a few years, so don't want to spend $ on stone mason to come in and tear it all out. Is it possible to install tile over the stone slab, or perhaps paint over it? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
