Why can't I use 3/16" decorative bead-board paneling directly over studs? I would like to finish my laundry/utility room and would rather not have to drywall. Why is it any worse than nothing at all? Do I have any other options? What if I just went ahead and "slapped" up the 3/16". Will my inspector make me tear it down?
Thanks

um, I'm guessing he will see it when he does the final on my basement finish :p .
I ended up buying some luan and will use that for support behind the panels.

um, you didn't say you were finishing your whole basement. Just the laundry room. I don't think I would get a permit to put up a few sheets of bead board in my laundry room, therefore no inspection
