I have just covered my deck with an oil based deck primer and now I am ready to use the solid color cabot deck stain with teflon. I am not crazy about the color( new redwood) which looks like dirty mud. I would like to know if I could go back over it with a transparent tinted stain after I use the solid color to change the color a little? ;)

There is no rule that says you can not put on a different color topcoat over the primer. I am curious if you had the cans mixed correctly or if it was a tint base system and may have been mixed incorrectly. New Redwood is one of the most popular colors we use. You could always pick about three and contact Cabot and ask for sample cans, they have a great program for that. Cabot is 1-800-US STAIN.

That 'dirty mud' look, that could be 2 things. Does the whole deck look this way or is it in patches? If its in patches, it could be from the PT itself or waterproofing on the deck not allowing the product to properly soak in. If the whole deck looks this way, sounds like a bad batch. Also, how did you apply it? brush, roller, spray ???

Let me try again to explain. I have just put an oil based primer on my deck, which was tinted with the same color that I am going to use for the stain(new redwood)cabot solid color deck stain with teflon coating, and it is a latex paint. I used a brush, and it is the same color all over(muddy brown)..
What I want to know is, after I put the latex stain on can I go back and put a tinted semi clear stain over the latex to change the color a little?

The answer is no. There is no reason you can not change the color as instructed above. As a matter of fact if you are using the Cabot recommendations it recommends two top coats over the primer. My opinion only but, I would always do everything possible to avoid using a solid stain. Now that you are here though, try finding a color you like and recoating. Also, I do not know exactly which product you used(there are many) but, calling Cabot they will also give you technical assistance as well.
