Electronic Alarms and Home Security Devices - Security system that can interface to my PC?

Hi, I want to install a security system that interfaces to my PC, either directly (serial or similar) or through my home Ethernet. I thought this would be pretty standard but have not been able to find one. This will let me check up on my house while I'm at work. If the system also has dial-out/monitoring functions etc, that's great.

From my limited research so far, this seems to fall into the home automation field, but I do not need to control the house, only monitor the security system. But I'd consider one if not crazy expensive.

I'm also installing IP cameras with motion detection and software to notify me on movement events...once the two systems (alarm and video) are up and running, I'll spend a whole lot less time worrying about my house while I'm away.

You may also want to look into the <a href="http://www.homelogic.com">HomeLogic components and software</a>, which interface with the HAI systems and your IP cameras - as well as many other home products.

Also, Elk Products has just come out with a new system, called the <a href="http://www.elkproducts.com/products/m1/elk-m1.htm">Elk-M1</a>, that will do what you want to do. It also has many automation features like the HAI systems.

The Interlogix NX-584 module provides an interface to home automation computer systems for their NX-8 panels. I've never had occaision to install one, but they spec out as pretty flexible.
