Help. We have bought a newly built home and while the mainfloor is hardwood strip :) ...the entire upper floor was finished with parquet :( . While my preference is to rip it out entirely & lay strip flooring (I have serious 'issues' with parquet...esp. small-format 'apt-style' tiles), my guy is not up for the time & expense involved. I think I could live with the parquet if it were at least re-finished in a darker & much richer stain (e.g. walnut, mohagony,). Given the parquet is brand new & we have no repair issues, can we refinish w/out sanding? I've heard a Flecto product that does this, but I'm skeptical about how it will turn out. Anyone have any experience with doing this...we are moving into the place in a month and I'm panicking?!

You will have to sand the finish off to get to wood so it will stain. Trying to stain over the polyurethane finish, is going to be a big mess to clean up.
